“We had an amazing week at Bluebell Cottage.”
Before our holiday started we were contacted by the owner about our arrival time and were given the location based on what3words. This made it much easier to find, as the cottage is in a beautifully secluded spot overlooking ancient woodland. Arrangements were also made for our daughter, Beekeeper Cottage's children and the owner's grandchildren to participate in some Halloween fun. This initial contact and attention to detail set the tone for the whole break.
On arrival we were met by Chris and shown around a meticulously clean property. There was a welcome basket for us of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits. This was much appreciated. As was the welcome basket for our dog. Chris showed us how to use the hot tub and the secure meadow he has for us to run the dog in. We had a good chat with him about his plans to re-introduce our British bees into the eco-system rather than the 1000s of imported Queen bees. He was very passionate about this, and wish him all the best, as it will make a huge difference to the area.
The property being in a beautifully secluded area, overlooking farmland and ancient woodland made it the perfect down time retreat. The property has wifi, but it isn't as fast as we get at home, as Chris explained this was due to the ISP. For us this was not an issue at all, as it meant we were away from any screens. The perfect way to enjoy family games and some DVDs. Relaxing in the hot tub of an evening was spot on. A hot tub that was checked on twice a day.
On our penultimate night Chris bought over a pumpkin and some templates for our daughter to carve, along with candles. We arranged a little trick or treat for our last night around the three properties. The children all had a ball, dressing up and exchanging sweets on our last night. Chris and his family also put on a small Halloween display in the meadow.
Chris recommended different places we could visit. We went Gruffalo hunting in Queenswood, wandered around Berrington Hall (NT so take your cards), Stokesay Castle, Ludlow Castle and explored the local picture postcard villages, got cheese from the local artisan producer and some local cider from Dunkertons. So pack your sturdy boots and go amd explore the area, it is stunning.
Nothing was too much effort for Chris, he was keen to make sure everyone's holiday was the best it could be. His attention to detail made sure of that. Thank you for a fab week away, we wish you all the best with the bees.
