“A wonderful stay with the children ages ranging from 6 years to 20, one of whom loves trains.”

They all loved waving at them passing by. The cottage was very clean and comfortable with enough space to accommodate us all. We visited Drayton Manor, which was about an hour away, Cabury World, (which teens and tots all enjoyed, especially the chocolate handouts) and Severn Valley railway. There are large supermarkets close by as well as a local shop and plenty of takeaways. The only 'faults' were nowhere to dry laundry on a rainy day and could have had more crockery particularly children ...

There are large supermarkets close by as well as a local shop and plenty of takeaways. The only 'faults' were nowhere to dry laundry on a rainy day and could have had more crockery particularly children friendly dishes. We hand to put the dishwasher on after breakfast to ensure clean crockery for tea and vicer versa.

About the location

BLAKEDOWN

Kidderminster 3.6 miles; Stourbridge 5.5 miles; Bewdley 10 miles; Birmingham 15.4 miles; Bridgnorth 17.7 miles; Ironbridge 26.5 miles.

Blakedown is a village in the Wyre Forest District in the north of the county of Worcestershire, England. Following enclosures and the arrival of the railway, it developed both agriculturally and industrially during the 19th century. Due to its transport links, it now serves mainly as a dormitory for the neighbouring town of Kidderminster, along with the cities of Birmingham and Worcester. Close by, one of the largest ancient woodlands in the country, the Wyre Forest is a designated SSSI and National Nature Reserve, offering visitors lovely walks and cycle trails, home to many rare species of wildlife, flora and fauna. The pretty town of Bewdley, once described as the most perfect Georgian town in Worcestershire lies on the banks of the River Severn and has a good choice of pubs, restaurants, cafes, antiques and craft galleries, as well as the Severn Valley Railway. Also close by is Stourbridge, famous for its glassmaking and some of the best attractions in the country, including the West Midlands Safari Park, Ironbridge Gorge and the Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford are within driving distance. The major city of Birmingham is also within reach of Blakedown, which boasts a range of things to see and do, including the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter, where you can enjoy an afternoon of retail therapy, and Cadbury World, where you can enjoy fascinating, self-guided tours; the city also houses an airport, handy for those travelling in from overseas. The medieval town and birthplace of William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon, the beautiful Malvern Hills, Ludlow, Warwick with its magnificent castle and Bridgnorth, Dudley with its famed Black Country Living Museum, along with many unspoilt Cotswold towns and villages also make a great family day out.
