“We stayed here for 5 nights for 6th October arriving quite late - on arrival it was clear the property hadn’t been cleaned for a while, there were dozens of dead flies on windowsills and floors, the family bathroom had hair in the plug hole from previous guests, the carpet in the second bedroom hadn’t been hoovered, it was all jammed down from previous guests using it and there were hairs etc on the carpet, the mater bedroom hadn’t a thick layer of dust on the bed head and tv again had not been cleaned and there were tea/coffee stains on the kitchen floor - I cleaned what I could myself the morning after we arrived - I made Sykes aware of this and have sent pictures and they are currently investigating.”

That’s the cleanliness, now the lodge itself, it desperately needs two new sofas, both of these are so low and soft that when sat on you just sink right though we actually ended up using the bar stools to sit on in the living area, also impossible to watch tv unless you are watching steaming as the aerial signal is awful, it needs some kind of booster to rectify this, I spoke to the people in the lodge next to us and their tv was fine so definitely can be fixed the mattresses in both bedrooms ...

Both sofa and mattresses have been mentioned in previous reviews and they are still the same so clearly nothing has been done. We were staying for a family funeral and so was busy everyday with arrangements so we had to stay but if we had time we would’ve left the lodge and stayed someone else. Definitely do not recommend and I’m hoping Sykes will rectify the issues raised with them.

Hi Sarah We are really sorry to read of your experience, there is obviously a combination of factors that have resulted in a stay that has fallen way below the standards we have set. The cleanliness issues are a concern to us as owners as well - generally we find the the cleaning staff at Sykes do a great job - we have picked this up with Sykes like yourself and investigate were things went wrong. We have taken on board your comments re: the smaller sofa, we have had a previous comment about it being quite low and have purchased some legs to raise it up a bit (just haven't had a chance to fit them yet, hopefully that will improve things. I personally find it to be very comfy but only have small legs so will maybe look at getting the cushions replaced if this becomes an issue. The l-shaped sofa we find to be very firm but will check this when we are next there. Mattresses are sometimes. personal opinion - re: the mattress in the main room - personally I agree with you - it is too soft but my wife likes it. Based on your comments we will get this replaced for a firmer mattress. In the second bedroom we have just fitted a really nice mattress topper which has made the mattress much firmer - will check this out when we are next there. Again with the TV - this has not been an issue but to be fair when I am there I do just watch the streaming services. It may need a re-tune if there are still issues I will get the aerial chap out - he fitted the aerials for all the lodges so it will be fixable - it is the first time this has been mentioned. Apologies again that things were not up to standard - hopefully Sykes will come back to you but rest assured I will be onto them first thing on Monday. Thank you for your feedback. We can only apologise for the cleanliness issues you experienced on arrival. We always ask guests to let us know of any issues on arrival, so we can aim to rectify as soon as possible. We appreciate this should not be required with cleanliness, however on occasion our standards do fall below standard. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner
