“This was our third stay in Garden Cottage and we still find it very satisfactory.”

Nice clean cottage in a good area for Shopping, Sight-seeing, and Historical places of interest to visit. Owners very friendly and helpful. Plenty of wildlife in the little wood to the side of the garden and a little steam at the bottom of the garden. Very picturesque. We would highly recommend this holiday cottage.

The property

Garden Cottage is a delightful holiday cottage located adjacent to the wonderful Shilbrook Manor, itself a listed building built around the 1860's.

The property has undergone a complete overhaul and today provides a high standard of self catering accommodation whilst overlooking a simply stunning garden of two acres.

The cottage is situated on the edge of the hamlet of Black Bourton, which has history dating back to 1086, and is within easy reach of popular spots such as Burford, Woodstock and Lechlade on Thames Local attractions include Bampton's Downtown Abbey walk (2 miles away), William Morris's Kelmscott Manor (3 miles) and Jeremy Clarkson's 'The Farmer's Dog' pub (6 miles).

This romantic hideaway is ideal for a couple who want to escape to the Cotswolds. The owner, who is a garden designer, is also a keen horticulturalist very happy to sell plants (when and where possible!) in addition to eggs and home made preserves.

About the location

BLACK BOURTON

Bampton 2 miles; Burford 7 miles; Oxford 21 miles.

Black Bourton is a small medieval village in Oxfordshire, notably the birthplace of influential novelist Maria Edgeworth and painter William Turner of Oxford. Black Bourton has an excellent gastropub and is home to St Mary the Virgin Church which features superb 13th century wall paintings carefully uncovered in 1932. The nearby village of Bampton, one of the principle locations for Downton Abbey, is well worth a visit to discover the many sites of interest, including the West Oxfordshire Arts Gallery. Burford, the ‘gateway' to the Cotswolds, is within easy reach, and Oxford is just 21 miles away. An excellent base for touring this beautiful region.
