Bluebell Cottage

A beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting.

Some of the detail cleaning was lacking, particularly in the bedroom. The washing machine was half full of water creating an unpleasant smell in the kitchen. The fire place was dirty with a black liquid running down the back wall and pooling to the side of the fire. General maintenance issues such as loose toilet seat, dripping tap and shower, paint peeling off staircase hand rails. The sofa appeared to have collapsed springs on one side. Altogether, the quality of this cottage this wasn't to the standard we have come to expect from Sykes Cottages.

We have just come back from a wonderful trip to Shottery near Stratford Upon Avon and we stayed in Bluebell Cottage in Shottery.

It was a beautiful old thatched cottage with so much charm and history. The cottage had been very lovingly restored inside to make it a lovely place to stay. We had everything we needed and were very comfortable in this amazing cottage. Bluebell cottage is very well situated to explore Stratford upon Avon as it’s only a short walk away from historic Stratford and all on paths away from roads. There was a lovely park only 10 minutes away from the cottage so we could give our dog a run off the lead before heading into Stratford. The pub in Shottery The Bell was really friendly and served great food and they were dog friendly and it was only a short walk from the cottage. I would really recommend a visit to this beautiful part of the country and to Bluebell cottage for a lovely restful stay with so much history to celebrate and enjoy. We will most definitely be returning as so much still to see whilst using the gorgeous Bluebell cottage as our base.

A lovely cottage in a fabulous location for walking to Strattford- Upon- Avon and literally down the road from Anne Hathaways cottage!

We would definite come back for a repeat as it was so nice.

31st October-7th November 2025, my stay in Bluebell Cottage was thoroughly enjoyable.

Although overnight it was very cold and there was often heavy rain, the days were all fine and clear, which was a great bonus. The cottage is a fascinating Tudor-era dwelling, made very comfortable for today with a small but well-equipped kitchen, and a good upstairs bathroom. Both the cottage's manager and its owner were really kind and helpful, and I was very grateful for that. Despite the outdoors cold, I found Bluebell cottage to be a quiet and very cosy haven, with a private, off-road, parking spot. A couple of local shops, and a pub, are very close-by on foot. Central Stratford is also a very pleasant 20-25 min. walk on very easy, flat footpaths. It's a great time to visit: not too busy, but so much to see and enjoy. The 'Shakespeare story' and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre are, of course, globally renowned. Many of the town's buildings are a visual treat, and they are wonderful and fascinating survivors of a long-past era. The riverside area is very beautiful. Plenty of nice places in town for lunch. Some of the surrounding countryside is sublimely attractive and, places well-worth visiting such as Charlcote Park and Baddesley Clinton, are just a short drive away. Bluebell Cottage made a great base for me to have a relaxed and peaceful week in one of England's most wonderful old towns; my time there seemed to go by all too quickly.

A very realistic feel for a country cottage & only 3 minutes walk to Annec Hatherway Cottage, Stratford-upon-Avon

We enjoyed our stay at picturesque Bluebell Cottage.

It was very cosy and clean. It was interesting experiencing a 17th Century cottage but with all mod cons. The situation of the cottage was excellent as we could walk into Stratford on Avon in 20 minutes on footpaths. The wonderful Anne Hathaway's Cottage was just down the road. The only reason I have marked the maintenance section down is that the toilet flush valve kept getting stuck.

Considering the property is small & old it provides everything that you need! Lovely and warm in a great little village with easy walking into Stratford! A visit down the road to the local pub The Bell is a must as is the lovely cafe a few hundred yards away! Very clean and well equipped and very friendly locals!

Lovely cottage in brilliant location.

Very peaceful. Kitchen very well provided. I expected - small, as the house is only for 2 people - dishwasher. Tumble drying facilities would be useful. It was a bit alarming when the washing machine jumped out from the worktop! Only really issue was that the heater upstairs had turned the bedrrom and lounge into a furnace and it was hard to know how to turn it down/off. More obvious and clearer instructions would have been useful.] I've recommended the cottage highly to anyone I know.

The cottage itself was lovely but the cleanliness/ bed let it down badly.

The showerhead was covered in black slimy mould and had clearly never been cleaned and the whole house in general was filthy. The cleaning that has been done is clearly just a quick hoover / wipe down before the next guests. We had to empty the hoover that was provided before we could use it as it was full the brim. The bed was very uncomfortable as the mattress was so thin. The cottage itself is lovely but needs a major deep clean throughout.

We have stayed here previously so we knew the property, however that was pre pandemic.

We are very pleased with our stay, there was one irritating thing however, after 2 days the Wi Fi crashed '

Everything we could wish for was available with the exception of a sloping and uncomfortable bed.

A beautiful cottage in a lovely location

A charming comfortable cottage delightfully situated so close to Anne Hathaways Cottage.

All was clean and well maintained the only slight imperfection might be that there was no heated towel rail in the bathroom. But otherwise a lovely place to stay

I was very surprised to find was owned by a local cleaning ‘solutions’ company… The following solutions were not met.

Having stayed a few weeks before for another two weeks I found the same issues which even after reporting were not addressed or even responded to. The shower and bath had not been cleaned at all with footprints and scum rings in the bath and mould and hairs in the shower. The sewer pipe had a leak above the front door so expect an outdoor shower when emptying the bath and we were left with a dirty mop behind the electric fire to mop up a leaking chimney. There were stains all over the fireplace due to the leak and it would only have needed a lick of paint…. There was a lot of mould growing behind the bed. Were left a couple of toilet rolls and a bin bag for two weeks so had to go out and buy some more and some bathroom cleaner and bleach. Matters were raised by email with owner for resolution but I heard absolutely diddly squat back…. Other than that it was a charming building character wise in a nice location.

This is a very old property and therefore has the normal creaky floor, nothing in level or flat, steep staircase, so you need your wits about you when moving around.

The property stays very warm all the time, so suggest airing some times as can attract condensation in the winter months. Very quiet location and very relaxing. Lovely location is great and easy 20-30 minute walk into town where there is everything you need to have good days and evenings.

I just love this cottage.

Bit reluctant to say so though because I want to go again and don’t want it to be fully booked. It was just the ticket for my week away. Comfortable, warm and great location. Loved every minute and will be back.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely area, would have liked there to be more information on the local area, eg the shaded ginnel that is a much more pleasant and shaded walk into town than walking down the main Rd.

Bluebell cottage is a wonderfull place full of character for a holiday and has everything we needed for our one week stay.

Everything was immaculate clean and we appreciated the comfortable bed. We very much hope to come back soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed the delightful quaint Tudor Blue Bell cottage.

It was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed for our 5 day stay. Anne Hathaway's cottage was 300 yards away and the hop- on hop-off bus was there as well. The town bus stop was 800 yards away. We also appreciated the off street parking, walk-in shower and the comfy bed. The clearly advertised steep stairs were steep but had a firm banister with enough grab handles to help. I am 78 and managed them. Everything was spotlessly clean and we enjoyed the welcoming treats.
