“The 2nd visit this year was as lovely as the first and I brought 2 of my grown up children with me this time and they thought the cottage was amazing too.”

The cottage has a lovely homely feeling and the beds are so comfortable. I think the only let downs are the lack of attention to detail in the cleaning and the tired sofas which are very low to the ground. We found lots of things such as toys and paper had been missed during cleaning and I had to physically clean out the bottom of the dishwasher because it had lots of orange food left in the bottom of it. Also we found a lot of cutlery and some of the pans were greasy so we had to wash them ...

We found lots of things such as toys and paper had been missed during cleaning and I had to physically clean out the bottom of the dishwasher because it had lots of orange food left in the bottom of it. Also we found a lot of cutlery and some of the pans were greasy so we had to wash them thoroughly before we could use them. Overall, I adore this place and if the small oversights were attended to I feel it a perfect retreat and I would definitely go back for a 3rd stay.

About the location

LITTLEDEAN

Newnham-on-Severn 2 miles; Gloucester centre 14 miles.

Littledean is a village in the Forest of Dean, containing many ancient buildings, and with Roman fortifications evident on the hillside east of the village. It provides a shop, Post Office and two pubs. The nearby picturesque village of Newnham-on-Severn offers riverside walks, a wide range of individual shops, and traditional inns within well preserved Georgian buildings. The Royal Forest of Dean, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and England's largest oak forest, offers many activities including cycling, horse riding and numerous lovely walks. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course are on offer for the more adventurous while other activities include fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing. Victorian docklands, Roman foundations and a Norman Cathedral can be found at the riverfront city of Gloucester. The market town of Ross-on-Wye, overlooking a large loop in the River Wye, has excellent shops, pubs and restaurants to suit every taste plus many black and white timbered buildings, and is close by as is the River Severn Estuary, famous for it's tidal bore, bird watching and abundance of wildlife. View the area from a river cruise or hot air balloon or enjoy trips to Symonds Yat, the Black Mountains, Hereford and Monmouth.
