Nigel “Lovely cottage.”
Typical Cotswolds. The double bed did feel super small. Could do with a shaving point, full length mirror and shaving mirror. Would also be nice to have sun chairs/loungers.

The host phoned on the second day to check if everything was fine .Thank you Kirstin . Would love to stay again .

David “This was a stunning little property and we enjoyed our stay very much.”
Easy to locate and a very accurate listing. We very much enjoyed having a lovely little yard to sit in and enjoy the peace and quiet. Many good pubs and public footpaths for morning and evening walks close by. The owner of the property was very responsive on the occasion we needed her which was greatly appreciated. The property is most certainly clean but could do with a deeper spring clean.
- David, June 2024Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Forge. We are so pleased you enjoyed the house. It has so much character, set in a lovely village, with the local pub and walks from your door. We hope you managed to try some of the other lovely places to eat in Stow and the wonderful Natational Trusts around the area. We will pass on your comments about the Spring Clean to the Housekeeper, so thank you for this. We would love to welcome you for another stay in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Marcus “The Forge was perfect for our stay.”
My wife and I were travelling with my wife’s sister so the 2 bedrooms were ideal for us. The photos on the website were accurate and what we saw was what we expected. The facilities were of a high standard. Neff kitchen appliances were easy to use and worked well. The exhaust fan in the downstairs shower room was not working and one of the lamps in the lounge didn’t work.
- Marcus, May 2024Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, it's lovely to hear you all had a wonderful time while staying at The Forge. I do hope you managed to explore the Cotswolds and the lovely Restaurants and Shops just down the road in Stow. We have passed on your feedback to the Owner who will get this looked at straight away, so thank you. We hope to welcome you again soon. Kind regards Manor Cottages Property Owner
Beatriz “Beautiful cottage My only issue was the cutlery, it is very nice but if i am on ...”
Beautiful cottage My only issue was the cutlery, it is very nice but if i am on holiday I don’t want to do washing, perhaps simple cutlery that can go in the dishwasher would be better Also, there were some spider webs around the lamps in the lounge and in the skylight in the bathroom Minor things, overall an amazing cottage
- Beatriz, February 2024Debra “Beautifully designed cottage in a wonderful position.”
The description and photos are accurate although the garden is small but big enough for a summer BBQ. Loads of walks from the cottage as well as delicious pubs and restaurants near by. Lovely place to just chilling in front of the wood burning fire. Kirstin as well as checking that everything was as it should be left a really detailed folder not only of the cottage but of local places to visit as well as pubs and restaurants too. Would definitely return for a peaceful get away in the Cotswolds. Thank you Kirstin.
- Debra, February 2024Thank you for your wonderful feedback. We are delighted that you loved the cottage and its location. Thank you for the recommendations of the local eateries. We hope we can welcome you back again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner
Keith “Another fabulous stay at the Forge.”
We were somewhat surprised not to find the usual ‘welcome pack’ when we entered the property, but within half an hour there was a knock at the door & a lovely lady dropped off a bag of goodies! The owner Kirsten even dropped by to check everything was ok. Comfy & cosy as always. Can’t wait to return.
- Keith, January 2024Dear Keith, it was lovely to finally meet you (and your lovely dog!). I am glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon! Warm wishes, Kirstin Property Owner
Jennifer “Charming cottage with thoughtful touches throughout, like Chirstmas tree, milk/juice in fridge and panettone for tea.”
It is a beautifully appointed property, one which felt more like a family home than a holiday cottage - and its position could not have been better for exploring the Cotwolds, which we did both by foot and car. The staff at Manor Cottage texted to check in with us, which was very friendly and helpful. We we most definely return, many thanks for a wonderful start to the Christmas holidays!
- Jennifer, December 2023Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Forge. It's lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and the little touches provided. We hope to welcome you back again next year. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner
Lauren “We had an amazing stay at the Forge!”
The cottage is so thoughtfully curated with everything we needed. The weather was chilly while we were there, so we enjoyed lots of fires in the beautiful log burner. The location was great, but the cottage also has tons of maps and books for rambles if you wanted to travel further. A special thanks for leaving the flyer about the Christmas market at Oddington Village Hall! That was the perfect start to our stay!
- Lauren, November 2023Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Forge. It sounds like you had a wonder time at the cottage and enjoyed many a walk from your door. I'm glad to hear you had time to visit the Christmas market to. We would love to welcome you back again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner
Anna “The Forge is beautifully kept and really well situated for exploring the Cotswolds.”
The property was warm, comfortable and had everything we needed, and we appreciated a text on the day we arrived to ask if we needed anything. Thanks for a wonderful break.
- Anna, October 2023Dear Anna, thank you for your kind words. So lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay at The Forge. Thank you and best wishes, Kirstin Property Owner
Nicky “What a beautiful and cosy Cotswold cottage The Forge is, we had an absolutely great stay.”
There is everything you'll ever need for a relaxing stay, the kitchen has everything you'd ever need and it's beautifully furnished throughout. With a fabulous welcome pack too. Even better it was dog friendly and Bertie loved it. Our dream home away from home. With all the places recommended to visit not too far away.
- Nicky, October 2023Thank you Nicky for your kind feedback! I am so glad to hear that you (and Bertie Property Owner
Oliver “Super beatiful cottage, everything on board we needed.”
Especially information about dog walks was very helpful and we enjoyed walking them. Also the Pub 200 meters away was great, with a beergarden and dog friendly. We enjoyed our stay there so much.
- Oliver, August 2023Thank you for this lovely feedback. We're delighted you enjoyed your stay and the dog walks too! We hope to welcome you again. Best wishes Manor Cottages Property Owner
Marilyn “When we arrived the gates were open so the name plate”The Forge “ ,was not visible.”
.As the cottage is set back it needs to have its name showing. We contacted the agents, they promised to get back to us to give us more detailed instructions,as to how to find the cottage. They never did. After an hour a wonderful gentleman contacted his wife, who,it transpires has prepared The Forge for visitors,in the past. She drove out to us ,closed the gates, showed us the sign, and in we went. Not a propitious beginning, after a long journey.Better signage and more detailed directions are necessary. Once we were settled in everything was as promised and our stay was wonderful. We would all recommend The Forge to anybody. Beautifully appointed, comfortable, peaceful, indeed an ideal holiday cottage.
- Marilyn, August 2023Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry that you were unable to find the property. We gave written instructions and the what 3 words code but if you had called again would have been happy to assist further. Best wishes, Manor Cottages Property Owner

- Maxine, June 2023Thank you for your lovely comments. Best wishes Character Cottages Property Owner
Leslie “Had a lovely holiday in this cottage in the little village of Upper Oddington.”
The weather was excellent all week, which made the stay better. Walked into Stow one day (45min across the fields) and to Daylesford Organic, about the same in the opposite direction. Very good pub 5mins walk from the house, nice food, friendly people. Village is away from the main road, so it's very quiet. Spent a lot of time in the garden, which is a major feature of the house. It has a large table and chair set and a small barbecue (which we used to cook kebabs bought from the excellent butcher in Stow). Some photos of the garden, the seating and also the main bedroom are missing in the description. These are all very good features and should be included.
- Leslie, June 2023Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful stay at The Forge and the surrounding location. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner
Heloisa “Hi! just to say that the gap in the fence in the backyard is quite big and easy for dogs to escape.”
As it' a pet friendly place, this was a concern for us! might be good to close it? thanks
- Heloisa, May 2023Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Forge. We hope you had a lovely stay and thank you for the comments. I can confirm the gap in the fence has now been addressed and it's dog proof for your furry friends. We would love to welcome you again in the future. Kind regards Manor Cottages. Property Owner
John “It was a wonderful cottage but really needed a bigger tv ?”
And bigger bath towels. Just a observation on our part the rest of the cottage was fantastic and such a beautiful village.
- John, May 2023Natasha “Gorgeous cottage in a great location.”
Had everything we needed and more. Thank you
- Natasha, April 2023Thank you for your feedback with regards to your stay at The Forge. It's so lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay, it is beautiful and such a lovely location to. I hope we can welcome you back again very soon. Kind regards Character Cottages. Property Owner
Veronica “We really loved this cottage.”
There is a very cosy feel as soon as you walk in, and the log burner with a plentiful log supply was a real bonus as the weather was poor all week. We did not meet the owner but she kept in contact with us offering to help if needed. There is a path nearby which leads to a field for walking your dog and the village itself has two good pubs, one just a couple of 100 yds from the cottage and the staff there were extremely friendly and welcoming.
- Veronica, March 2023We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at The Forge and really appreciated your feedback. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner
Nikki “This was the loveliest of properties.”
The neighborhood was so “quaint”, the locations was close to Stow and a couple of very nice pubs. The cottage itself was well turned out, very clean and just charming. And even better, it was decorated for Christmas! Real tree and wreath…. So festive. I would highly recommend this house to anyone. If we stay in this part of the Cotswolds again , I would surely try to rent “The Forge”, again.
- Nikki, December 2022Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back in future. Best wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner
Keith “Have stayed here several times over the years.”
Perfect cottage for exploring the cotswolds. Will definately return.
- Keith, November 2022Thank you for providing us with such lovely feedback on your stay at The Forge. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your time once again and we cannot wait to welcome you once more in the future! Best wishes, Character Cottages. Property Owner
Claire “The cottage was beautiful and comfortable, home from home.”
The only suggestion I could make is, literally everything is provided including logs for the fire, coffee pods, washing up liquid, cling film etc, which isn’t obvious from the listing or the welcome email. I got an email advising to take these things including oven gloves and tea towels. I appreciate this must be a generic email for all cottages, but it would have saved having to pack so many things!! Not a big deal, just a suggestion
- Claire, October 2022Thank you for your feedback and we're delighted you enjoyed your stay at The Forge. We do try to provide consumables for our guests but thank you for your suggestion which we will take on board. We hope to welcome you back again. Character Cottages Property Owner
Clare “The property itself was perfect for us.”
Wonderfully equipped, well looked after and very comfortable. The extra touches like tea and coffee, cake, a cold drink on arrival, were much appreciated after a long journey. Our toddler loved having toys there to play with. Having Netflix access on the TV was an unexpected bonus. Our only minor criticism would be that the travel cot needs replacing. We would definitely recommend the cottage and would stay ourselves again
- Clare, July 2022Gillian “A lovely quaint cottage in a great village, it was extremely hot and was provided with a fan, but it would be nice to perhaps leave a couple in the cupboards for the summer for both bedrooms.”
Garden could do with a tidy up and garden furniture in need of some tlc but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Gillian, July 2022Thank you for providing this review and we're delighted that you enjoyed the cottage and the village location. We hope the extreme heat didn't impact your stay too much and appreciate your constructive comments regarding additional fans and further attention to the garden. We hope to welcome you again. Property Owner
Isabel “We had the best stay at the forge.”
Perfectly located for some of the most special cotswald villages. Rooms were appointed with charming designs and kitchen was perfect for cooking and nights staying in. We loved this property and hope to be back! Thank you for sharing your lovely home w us.
- Isabel, June 2022Thank you so much for the amazing feedback. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and really hope to be able to welcome you back again. Best Wishes, Character Cottages Property Owner
John “Having whittled down my Cotswold cottage shortlist to six Forge Cottage stood out.”
They all looked great but Forge Cottage was £200-£300 more than the others. I went with the theory that Forge Cottage must be really special, but was it? The cottage is located in a gorgeous village with a great pub just ‘round the corner’ so that was a great start. The cottage itself is really lovely. I think it would be ideal for a family of 4 but too snug for 4 adults. The kitchen is very well equipped, perhaps a few steak knives wouldn’t go amiss but everything else was there. If you like a glass of Champagne on an evening you’ll be delighted with the Champagne flutes. If however you prefer a G&T I suggest you take your favourite glasses as the glassware provided is on the small side. The lounge area has a three seater sofa and easy chair. If you plan on watching much TV you’ll be disappointed by the small television sized to fit against a column between two windows giving views onto the small yet delightful garden. The best room in the cottage is the downstairs shower room which would grace a much larger property. This contrasts to the two small rooms upstairs which can only take a standard double and squeeze in two single beds. When I’m paying £200-£300 more than comparable cottages my expectations go up a notch or two and as much as I enjoyed my stay in Forge Cottage I dont think it offers value for money. What lets it down is a lack of TLC and an eye for detail. The check in/out times allows 7 hours to get this small cottage ready for the next guests but its clear that all of this time isnt being used. If you go looking for spare sockets in the lounge you’ll no doubt look behind the sofa, something the cleaner doesnt do as there amongst the dust, fluff and spiders webs you’ll find an extension lead. As much as I liked the shower room I found that inside and out the shower was grubby with mould. Rubbing my finger along the grout whilst showering made things better so shouldn't be beyond the efforts of a half decent cleaner. If you are concerned about Covid there is nothing on arrival that will give assurance that all surfaces, kitchenware, books, DVDs and games etc have been sanitised. However you can take comfort knowing that for your Covid safety the BBQ has been removed. You’ll find this detail in the information pack although much, including refuse collection schedules, are out of date. The owners have recognised that a rug on a laminate floor can create a hazard and have used double sided tape to stick the edges down. However lack of care has resulted in two of the rug corners rolling up meaning the hazard has been poorly mitigated; as I found out when stubbing my toe and causing bruising and discomfort for a couple of days. Any worse and I’d have made a claim against the owners liability insurance. I did worry about crashing through the floor in the main bedroom as the floor feels ready to give way. Thankfully the most course and uncomfortable carpet imaginable gives structural support. The word count of my review shows bias to the negatives yet I still found this to be a delightful cottage and I would definitely book again, although only if the tariff is reduced to reflect a more realistic value for money range.
- John, June 2022Thank you for your comprehensive feedback. All your comments have been noted and are being addressed. Since your stay, the cottage has received a deep clean. We are glad that you enjoyed the property's location and its local pub.. We are pleased that you are thinking of returning and look forward to welcoming you again. It had everything we needed (and more!) A bit too chilly to enjoy the garden fully, but had some lovely meals and drinks at the local pubs. Such a great location to explore the area!
- Stevie, Mar 2021Nigel “Thanks so much for letting us stay in the Forge - we had a wonderful time revisiting and exploring the local area.”
Our daughter Isabel loved collecting conkers, blackberries and acorns on our walks. The cottage was so well equipped: much, much better than any other holiday rental I think we've ever stayed in (the only thing we missed was a tin opener: maybe it went walkabouts?). We made use of your recommendations of the local pubs and had great meals at The Kings Arms, Bleddington, the Fox in Lower Oddington and, of course, the Horse and Groom. (our only disappointment was the Fox in Broadwell: nice atmosphere but the food was very average). We finally made use of the stove on our last night as the evening chill came in: made the house feel very cosy. Thanks again - it was a great holiday.
- Nigel, Aug 2020Aleksandra “Beautiful cottage, we really enjoyed our stay.”

Generally, a very nice and quiet spot, ideal for someone with a dog.
- Andreas, Aug 2019Thomas “This cottage, located in a quiet little village, is beautifully decorated and very well equipped.”
It also has a secluded small garden which is delightful. There is a good pub in the village, and several others nearby. It is in a great location to explore the Cotswolds. If you want a retreat, stay here. If you prefer to be able to walk to shops and pubs or restaurants, you might prefer a larger Cotswold town such as Broadway or Stow-on-the- Wold.

The property
Dating back to the 18th century, The Forge is a beautifully refurbished Cotswold stone cottage with a lovely private garden, which sits on a quiet road in the picturesque village of Upper Oddington.
The village benefits from the award winning Horse & Groom pub, and is next to Lower Oddington, which has the equally well regarded Fox at Oddington pub.
Numerous beautiful walks are available right from the doorstep, and the village is just two miles away from the famous market town of Stow-on-the- Wold, with its many shops and restaurants.
The well known Cotswold towns of Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway and Chipping Campden are all just a short drive away, and further afield places such as Oxford, Bath and Stratford-upon-Avon are also within easy reach. The owner has tastefully renovated The Forge to a high standard, whilst retaining many original features, including wooden beams, oak floors and doors, and exposed Cotswold stone walls.
The character of the cottage is enhanced by modern features, including wireless internet access, a Clearview wood burning stove and a well presented kitchen.
Thoughtful touches include a selection of children’s cutlery, crockery and toys. The Forge sleeps four people in two bedrooms, with two bathrooms.
There is a well established enclosed garden outside the property and off-street parking is available for one car, with further on street parking readily available.
The Forge is perfect for a family or a small group of friends looking for an idyllic break in one of the Cotswolds’ loveliest villages.
The Forge is a detached cottage located on a quiet lane, with wooden gates opening into the garden, through which the cottage is accessed.
