“Overall a good stay in the cottage, however some features do look a little jaded and could do with a freshen up (damaged walls, worktops etc).”

During our stay we had the electric trip on the Sunday morning turning off the fridge & dishwasher etc, this was due to a substantial leak underneath the washing machine and cooker (junction box submerged in water). Although I appreciate this can happen to anyone at any property, it was quite clear this has been leaking for some time (black mould around rotten kick boards) and that the key signs weren't identified by property cleaners (mould & sound of running water near washing machine). I will ...

I will say however that Louise was very efficient in sorting our issue (rectified within 3hrs) and was very helpful overall on the day. The property is ideally situated with the centre of Stow only a minute or so walk away so the location was ideal. Would visit again providing its given a little bit of TLC in the future.

“The cottage was not as shown on the listing photos.”

The garden was unkempt with weeds and dead flowers. The cottage is poorly maintained and not clean. We found hair in the bath, crumbs on and under the cushion and a dirty drinking straw, grime and tooth floss picks in the washing machine. Excessive mould in the bathroom and cobwebs throughout. No mattress protector on a stained mattress and bedding was old and worn out. The cottage felt very unloved and in dire need of a thorough makeover and clean. The only positive is its location.

“The photos on website are very old and do not look as it is.”

The chairs and table were sticky fortunately we take bac wipes so we’re able to clean ,the tiny cloakroom sink in bathroom was broken the toilet not fixed to the wall the sink was fixed Friday when we had left.The soft furnishings were we’ll used and in my opinion in need of cleaning a thoroughly disappointing place.We enjoyed our visit to The Cotswolds, as an aside we use cottages twice most years so this was not the first time we have holidayed this way but the most disappointing

“Lovely cosy cottage in an ideal situation for walking into town or exploring the Cotswolds.”

Very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Plenty of good places to eat. We did find it very difficult to be unable to recycle as we are used to this. It must be possible to rectify this as the cottage next door did it. Two problems - the freezer was unusable as it was totally frozen up and the window boxes were full of dead plants. Not very welcoming and meant we were unable to take any photos of it!

“Great little cottage.”

“The property was not very clean.”

Hair was in the bath plug hole causing the water not to drain properly. Hairs were also left in the bath. Once we cleared the hair, the water still did not drain properly. The shower was extremely difficult to turn on and off. Some of the door knobs on the kitchen cabinets were loose. There were old chips in the oven. There was no kindling or firelighter for the fire. There were no spare toilet rolls so we had to purchase some. There was dirt between the sofa cushions. The small bedroom with 2 single beds is not correctly advertised as the beds are smaller than an average single and the bed sheets didn't fit properly. The waterproof mattress protector was ripped on one of the single beds. No recycling facility at the property either. Overall, the property upkeep was below standard expected. The property location is excellent and parking was easy and nearby. The property itself could be very nice but just felt like it hadn't been cleaned properly and requires a general touch up.

“My husband and I enjoyed our week at the cottage over Christmas.”

The location is fantastic as it’s right in Stow but not on a busy street. The cottage is small but perfectly formed. The kitchen is large for the size of the cottage. It was well equipped - my only complaint is the lack of cooking vessels as there was only one roasting tray and one small baking dish. The pots were a bit on the small size. It would have been nice if we were supplied with some dishwasher tablets. I ended up purchasing a box and leaving the rest in the cottage for future guests. We also found some unwashed glasses and bowls in the dishwasher when we arrived (cleaning standard could be better as there were also toothpaste stains on the mirror frame in the bathroom). The lounge was on the smaller side but the sofa (and plenty of blankets) was perfect for the space, and it was so lovely to have a log burner for the winter season. The main bedroom has ample space, although the bed was a bit small. Although we didn’t use it, the second bedroom is quite small, so would be better suited to small children or just one adult. The bathroom was sufficient but the sink was quite small and it would benefit from some storage space. Parking on the street wasn’t an issue. Overall, the cottage was well suited for our quiet week in the area. And it is reasonably priced for the fantastic location!

The furnishings make the cottage feel very cosy. The location is perfect for Stow on the Wold and the Cotswolds. It was very helpful that there was some coffee, tea and dishwashing liquid.

The property

Primrose Cottage is a beautiful Cotswold stone cottage, with a peaceful courtyard garden.

Despite its tranquil location, the cottage is located close to the heart of the picturesque market town of Stow-on-the-Wold, which has a wide range of bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as being ideally placed for exploring the wider Cotswold region. The cottage dates back to the 18th century and has been extensively renovated, whilst maintaining character features, such as wooden beams and a wood burning stove.Complementing these character features, the cottage has modern facilities, including wireless internet access, Freeview TV and a well equipped kitchen. The cottage sleeps a maximum of four people, in two bedrooms, with one bathroom.

It is an ideal retreat for a family or a small group of friends.

Primrose Cottage's front door opens into the kitchen.

The ground floor rooms are: Kitchen: A well equipped kitchen, containing a dishwasher, four ring gas hob, electric oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, freezer and washing machine.

There is also a dining table with four chairs; Living room: A cosy room, with oak beams, a wood burning stove and comfy seating for four.

The character features are complemented by a Freeview TV, with DVD player. Stairs lead up from the living room to the first floor landing, off which are the following rooms: Master bedroom: Contains a double bed; Second bedroom: Contains two 75cm wide single beds; Bathroom: Contains a bath with overhead shower, toilet and basin. Outside the front door, the cottage has a small courtyard garden, with an outdoor table and chairs.

The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum. Cheltenham (20 miles away) is, architecturally, the most complete regency town in England. A spa town with an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, it is famous for its horse-racing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. At other times of year, it is host to literature, jazz, classical music, science and food and drink festivals. Oxford, the oldest university city in England and sometimes called 'The City of Dreaming Spires’ has an abundance of prestigious attractions, including the 38 colleges of the university (half of which date back before 1600), the oldest university teaching room, the Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, and Botanic Gardens. Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within easy reach, making Stow-on-the-Wold an ideal base.
