“Our second stay at the Nook, again warmly welcomed by the owner John.”

Everything was just as good as we remembered. A very well equipped comfortable cottage with room to spread out and enjoy the sense of quiet. Perfect for exploring the beautiful surrounding area with many attractions close by. Great for walking or just reading in front of the fire. The Nook is very much recommended by us.

The property

The Nook is situated on the outskirts of the village of Sheepscombe, Gloucestershire in a beautiful wooded valley, much of which is a designated SSSI, and features in Laurie Lee’s famous ‘Cider with Rosie’.

This luxurious cottage boasts off-road parking for two cars, a spacious, front gravelled garden with seating, breath-taking views of the countryside and has wooden accents and beams woven throughout: the perfect setting for a family holiday to the Cotswolds.

After exploring the many walks from the front door, settle down in the snug or living/dining room both boasting homely woodburning stoves and TVs and the latter has wonderful floor to ceiling windows looking out over the panoramic countryside.

Prepare dinner in the fully-equipped, country style kitchen with AGA and tuck in at the dining table before stepping outside to soak up the last of the sun in the rear garden.

When sleep calls, climb the stairs to the first floor where a double with en-suite shower room and twin await, this floor is completed by a sleek bathroom with freestanding bath, perfect for a soothing soak.

The Nook lies a short walk from the Butchers Arms which serves locally sourced produce.

The village of Painswick with its Rococo Gardens and famous churchyard lies 2 miles away, and the town of Stroud with its many quirky shops and award winning farmers market is 4 miles away.

About the location

PAINSWICK

Stroud 4 miles; Gloucester 7 miles; Cheltenham 10 miles.

Painswick, located only 10 miles from Cheltenham, is a town and civil parish in Gloucestershire. The town originated from the wool trade, but is now best known for its parish church’s yew trees and the local Rococo Garden. The village is mainly constructed of locally quarried Cotswold Stone. It stands on a hill in the Stroud district which overlooks one of the Five Valleys and is halfway along the Cotswolds Way National Trail. It is home to a cricket and rugby team and has a popular golf course on the outskirts of the town. There is a local pub The Royal Oak which offer real ales, real fires and a courtyard. Opposite the pub is a well-stocked village shop. A twenty minute walk from the village is the Painswick Beacon which affords vast views across Gloucester to the River Severn and the Malvern Hills. The Painswick Centre hosts many events and exhibitions and is home to the ACP Gallery. Painswick is 4 miles north of Stroud and 2 miles northwest of Slad – home of Laurie Lee, author of “Cider with Rosie”.
