The property

Standing in an elevated and private position on the outskirts of the small village of St Briavels, The Cottage enjoys tremendous panoramic views over the Wye Valley below.

Originally a small worker's dwelling, the property benefits from the addition of a much larger, contemporary extension providing bright and spacious accommodation.

Guests will find a fantastic mix of the old and the new when they set foot inside the cottage.

The original part of the cottage retains some period features, such as old stone fireplaces and narrow stairs, while the extension has been thoughtfully designed to provide a wonderful feeling of space and comfort.

Particularly impressive are the bi-fold doors along one whole wall of the living area bringing the outdoors in.

Throw in the spectacular views when you are relaxing on the large patio with a glass or two in the evening and you'll be left with a truly memorable holiday experience.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

St Briavels

Monmouth 8 miles; Chepstow 9 miles

St Briavels stands almost 800 feet above sea level overlooking the Wye Valley and is only a 10 minute drive from The Forest of Dean. The village has an ancient moated Royal castle, a communal green, a playground, an art gallery and monthly farmers' market. It's history dates back to the 11th Century and beyond - the Hudnall woods, one of King John's favourite hunting grounds, are one of the few remaining unmanaged woods in the Country. Other nearby attractions include Puzzlewood, Clearwell's ancient caves, Symonds Yat with its outstanding views across the Wye Valley and riverside walks and many castles to explore. St Briavels is situated on the English side of the English/Welsh border providing easy access to the historic castles in Monmouthshire, and the foody delights of Abergavenny and the unspoiled and untamed natural beauty of the Breacon Beacons. On the English side of the border the beautiful market towns of Ross-on-Wye, and the cities of Hereford and Gloucester are within an hours drive or less. St Briavels offers easy access to a wealth of beautiful and historic walking trails, including Offa's Dyke. The area provides opportunities for many outdoor activities including cycling, caving, canoeing and abseiling. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or on horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course are for the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities in this unspoilt area. The ancient caves of Clearwell are nearby, as are the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path. Symonds Yat boasts natural scenery and straddles the beautiful River Wye with its magnificent limestone outcrop, popular with climbers, and well-known for its viewpoint. Visit the nearby historic walled town of Chepstow with its impressive Norman Castle and the celebrated racecourse, whilst the pretty market town of Monmouth, with its mixture of elegant Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, or the lovely town of Ross-on-Wye with its timbered Tudor houses and delightful riverside walks, both offer excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The unspoilt Brecon Beacons National Park and Black Mountains, as well as lovely Cotswold towns and villages are just a little further afield as are the cities of Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cardiff, Newport, and just across the Severn Bridge, Bristol and Bath. St Briavels is ideally placed for enjoying the delights of Gloucestershire at any time of the year.

Please note £25 charge per pet.
Please note there is a £200 Good housekeeping bond payable to the owner prior to arrival, account details will be sent once you final balance is received.
