“My mother & I had a wonderful relaxing holiday we had one night in Carriages & 6 nights in The Grooms both apartments had everything you could wish for, Elaine & Doug had tastefully decorated throughout, the beds, pillows & duvets were sumptuous, we loved the gardens which is why we booked to stay here, it was a nice touch that they gave us dog treats in our welcome pack!”

We had delicious meals out at Speech house & a great day at Lydney Park Est. Doug kindly carried our luggage up to Carriages as the steps were steep for my elderly mum. I would definitely return here hopefully next time with my 2 sons & families as it would be great to stay as a family unit in the Grooms, Carriages & Tack room. Constructive criticism provide blackout linings in back bedroom of carriages which Doug said he would take on board otherwise we couldn’t fault it! By far the best ...

Constructive criticism provide blackout linings in back bedroom of carriages which Doug said he would take on board otherwise we couldn’t fault it! By far the best Sykes property we’ve ever stayed in. The steps to Carriages are steep so not for people with mobility issues which we knew beforehand, all in all this couple have got it right on all counts would highly recommend. Exceptional

About the location

LYDNEY

Chepstow 9 miles, Monmouth 12 miles; Gloucester 20 miles; Chelttenham 27 miles; Bristol; Cardiff 41 miles

The small, thriving town of Lydney is situated between the eastern edge of the Forest of Dean and the River Severn in Gloucestershire. Lydney has a very good range of shops, a leisure centre and sports facilities, as well as pubs, cafes and restaurants serving a wide variety of meals. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or on horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course are for the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities in this unspoilt area. The ancient caves of Clearwell are nearby, as are the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path. Symonds Yat boasts natural scenery and straddles the beautiful River Wye with its magnificent limestone outcrop, popular with climbers, and well-known for its viewpoint. Visit the nearby historic walled town of Chepstow with its impressive Norman Castle and the celebrated racecourse, whilst the pretty market town of Monmouth, with its mixture of elegant Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, or the lovely town of Ross-on-Wye with its timbered Tudor houses and delightful riverside walks, both offer excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The unspoilt Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons National Park) and Black Mountains, as well as lovely Cotswold towns and villages are just a little further afield as are the cities of Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cardiff, Newport, and just across the Severn Bridge, Bristol and Bath. Lydney is ideally placed for enjoying the delights of Gloucestershire at any time of the year.
