Lisa “This was our 4th year of staying at May Cottage and I believe it’s the last as we are unable to book it again.”
I have seen that the property and its sister is being sold. We did have a good time as always. The property is as stated although it wasn’t as clean. There were dark dusty cobwebs which mean they hadn’t just been spun. They were old. There was a grubby air about the place. Marks on the walls. The tiles in the bathroom marked. There was a squashed dead spider in the washbasin under the hand soap bottle. It was sad. And felt like it was being run down ready for closure. The beds were clean and ...

In saying that I shall miss our visit to May Cottage next year at this time.

Helen “Had a great stay very comfortable accommodation and well equipped very close to shops and pubs dog friendly which is was a must for us again very close to fields for walking the dogs.”
Lovely garden although unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side for using it!
- Helen, December 2024Julie “This is our second time at May Cottage.”
We find it very comfortable, clean and tidy. We had a bit of trouble with the heating but having sent a text a prompt reply rectified the matter. The location is perfect just a couple of minutes walk to the high street full of eateries and beautiful shops. The Christmas lights had just been switched on and with the snow arriving it was like a Winter Wonderland. Just one tiny negative perhaps more than one toilet roll and bin bag for a weeks stay would be helpful.
- Julie, November 2024Keith “Very comfortable and well equiped.”
However I had difficulty trying to find radios to my favourite station, there was no operating i instructions for the microwave and the freezer was unusable because it needed defrosting. The review about the staircase that I only saw a few days before my holiday seemed a little unfair. I am 82 years of age with a balance problem but had no difficulty at all negotiating the stairs in absolute safety. The Horse and Hound was easily within 5 minutes walk, very welcoming and with an excellent menu as we're many other eateries only a few minutes walk away in Broadway. A most enjoyable week in the heart of the Cotswolds for me and my dog.
- Keith, September 2024Andrew “Lovely holiday cottage, so close to all the wonderful amenities of beautiful Broadway.”
Excellent parking facilities. The only small negative is the stairs and very steep and the treads are very short, although this is part of the cottage's charm, it is not suitable for the elderly! Otherwise 5 stars all the way.
- Andrew, June 2024Yvonne “We were very disappointed with the cottage.”
Our first night it was cold and the heating only came on at 7:0pm for a short time. The smaller bedroom had half sized cupboard for clothes with no chair or drawers. The shower could have been cleaner and there was nowhere to put toiletries. The space between bed and wall at each side was less than 12inches. The garden furniture was mouldy and unusable
- Yvonne, June 2024We're sorry to hear of your disappointment. There is a thermostat accessible to guests at any time to adjust as necessary. The heating came on for a brief period as the property had reached temperature. With regards to the bedroom, the configuration is advertised correctly on the listing. We have identified the silicone to replace in the shower and this is being addressed, however there is a bathroom cabinet to store any toiletries. Lastly the garden furniture has been looked into and there is no mould, however the set has aged over time and with no faults, it is fully functional. With this in mind however, we are updating the garden furniture for future bookings. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner
Sandra “Booked both april and may cottages for myself and my sister and her son and my son and daughter in law.”
we all agreed they were beautiful cottages, clean and everything you could wish for. loved the walks, loved broadway . our mother had died in april this year and had been to broadway with her and it was a lovely holiday full of wonderful memories. thank you. would love to come back
- Sandra, June 2024Colin “We had a lovely week at May Cottage, really handy for walking into Broadway.”
We shared the cottage with two friends and took our dog along. We felt that the second bedroom lacked storage, in spite of the built in cupboard and was a little small as a double room. The front bedroom lacked a mirror so ended up drying hair downstairs. Larger towels and spare bin liners would have been useful. The welcome pack was a bottle of milk and a pack of biscuits , two each. The garden was great for our dog and secure. Overall we would stay again but just the two of us so we would have more space.
- Colin, May 2024Lorraine “Had a lovely stay at May Cottage.”
It was perfect for myself , my mum and my little dog ! Great having 2 bedrooms , both en-suite and the garden was perfect at it was fully enclosed so able to let my dog wander out there without worrying . The beds were super comfy , showers were lovely , and the cottage had everything we needed. Just a couple of things we noticed , and that was there is not a mirror in one of the bedrooms which would have been nice , and that the garden furniture seemed quite old and not very comfortable, which was a shame as the weather was beautiful. Perfect location as just a 5 minute walk into Broadway with a choice of little restaurants and pubs to eat out . Overall a fantastic break away in a lovely place
- Lorraine, May 2024Laura “Great cottage in a great location.”
- Laura, March 2024Thankyou and we are pleased you had a good time at our lovely cottage. Property Owner
Iolanda “Lovely cottage in great location.”
A couple of observations 1. The kitchen was very cold which made eating in it a bit miserable. Needs another radiator installed. 2. Front bedroom needs a mirror 3. Stairs are extremely narrow and would be tricky for less mobile visitors 4. Could not put central heating on constant during the day so winter stays are a bit chilly
- Iolanda, February 2024Thankyou for your comments. The central heating can be put on constant as there are no restrictions on this. A mirror has been added to the front bedroom Not much we can do about the stairs I'm afraid as an old cottage but there is a handrail to make ascent and descent easier. Property Owner
Lisa “Great to see the shower has been fixed.”
This was our 3rd visit to May Cottage. And we have booked next year already. The cottage is very comfortable and clean. Perfect for us 2 couples. This year we noticed that there are fewer cups and mugs. They need replacing. We bought 2 cheap mugs to add to the mismatched collection so that there were 4 mugs in total. Also a plate was chipped. As there are 4 of everything it means each time the plate is being used. The bath towels were small and well used so maybe some bath sheets. All easily fixed. Apart from that it was lovely and as I said we have already booked our 4th stay.
- Lisa, December 2023Thankyou for your comments and we have addressed all issues raised and thanks for bringing to our attention. Property Owner
Victoria “Nice little cottage but found stairs very steep and narrow and as bathrooms upstairs not easy if have mobility issues.”
The complete lack of cleaning supplies was inconvenient nothing to wipe work tops or table with let alone wash floor from gravelly paw prints.
- Victoria, September 2023Monique “Lovely cottage, we can see the owners put a lot of effort in making this a wonderful place.”
Our compliments! Minor thing: our dog would appreciate some stepping stones in the garden, she didn't like to walk on the stones
- Monique, August 2023Susan “Can honestly say was delighted to arrive and it felt like home straight away clean and well equipped with good quality items which is not always the way when properties allow dogs.”
Would certainly recommend and hopefully will return ideal location for visiting the Cotswolds
- Susan, May 2023Carol “The property was in a good location and parking was good.”
Dog friendly garden. The second bedroom with four adults was too small and with no wardrobe very cramped. The stairs have very short treads and are quite difficult for anyone to use. Only one toilet roll per room really is very mean, also there were no spare bin liners for the kitchen rubbish . In the main bedroom there was an old light fitting on top of the wardrobe and the wall coat hooks in the second bedroom fell of the wall as soon as you touched it so you could not use them to hang anything so there are some minor tweeks in maintenance that need addressing. The welcome pack was also very mean, we have done holiday lets ourselves for years and one packet of biscuits and some milk is way below what we ourselves do. On that basis there was barely two biscuits per person, and some of the dog friendly cottages put treats in for the dog and at least have a water bowl. The cottage is in a great location for visiting the Cotswolds, the beds were comfortable although the duvets barely covered the edges.
- Carol, December 2022Thankyou for your feedback and i do apologise that you found a few things to your liking. Firstly the cottage is a period cottage set in the heart of Broadway and the room sizes are not huge but cosy and we have certainly had many guests staying in the second bedroom with no complaints and particularly so given it is en-suite. Yes there is no wardrobe but as built in cupboard with hanging space and hooks on the back of the door and wall mounting give plenty of hanging space. The staircase is the traditional staircase and we have put in a handrail to help those who are infirm and may struggle with the steepness of the stairs which are actually one of the features of the property. Re the welcome pack i have looked into this and spoken to my manager as our welcome pack is normally very well received and i can only apologise if you did not get the usual pack. I hope you will stay with us again Best regards Nick Property Owner
Lisa “We love this cottage.”
You have everything you need. Sofas comfy, beds comfy. My only issue was the shower, just as it was last time. The shower in the main bedroom for some reason is always boiling hot when we arrive. The little safety push button has been forced round so the temperature cannot be controlled. We were aware of it from last year when we reported it so we felt the water temp before stepping in. Fortunately, as before, our friends who were also staying is an engineer and he always rights this problem for us. So when you go back, as long as it hasn’t been forced again, it will be ok. But just a warning as we’ve been twice and each time the problem has been there. Overall we love this cottage and will be back
- Lisa, December 2022Thank you for your feedback and apologies if you had issues with the shower. You’ll be pleased to hear that both showers in the cottage have now been replaced. Property Owner
Eammon “We really enjoyed our stay at May Cottage.”
We were so comfortable and the cottage was spotlessly clean. Couldn’t get a better location too just off the High St and lovely to be able to park securely just across the road. Although you are on the main road it was so quiet we slept so well. We will definitely return one day.
- Eammon, November 2022Stephen “This is a fantastic cottage.”
Ideally positioned with off street parking. We had a lovely stay and felt right at home from the moment we entered the house. Would definitely recommend this place as an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds.
- Stephen, September 2022Fiona “Cottage was lovely and great location.”
Would have preferred more towels as there for a week. Thank you for the biscuits and milk it was a nice gesture.
- Fiona, August 2022I am pleased you had an enjoyable stay. I apologise about the towels but we always leave a bath towel and a hand towel for every guest and that is normally sufficient. If guests need more towels they usually ask but for the sake of protecting the environment we believe what we provide is more than sufficient for the vast majority of our guests. There is also a washing machine and dryer should you wish to use this for washing towels. We hope to see you again Thanks Nick Property Owner
Maureen “This is our second visit to this beautiful cottage travelling as a party of two friends.”
Location is superb and facilities generally very good but, in my opinion, these are suggested improvements…. Each bathroom should have had a least one spare toilet roll. We did not find the provision of one bath and one hand towel per person adequate for the week, we asked for more and these were duly delivered. The front bedroom needs a mirror, whilst there is one in the bathroom, this is nor useful when drying hair etc. We would have liked a small supply of dishwasher tablets for the week rather then the two left. The second smaller shower room needs a shelf. Having previously visited, we were aware that there are no shower mats, so we brought out own, especially useful for the bigger bathroom. We did not use the washing machine, but a few detergent capsules would have been useful. Thank you for the milk and cookies that were left for our arrival.
- Maureen, May 2022Helen “This cottage is comfortable, characterful and ideally located for the town centre and the wonderful local walks.”
We were well looked after, with the manager providing us with a cafetière very quickly on our first morning. The bed is very comfortable and the bathrooms are gleaming. Highly recommended.
- Helen, February 2022Jo-anne “A lovely cottage in the perfect location for all the amenities of Broadway.”
Parking so close to the village and cottage was helpful. Comfortable beds and en-suite, within a quiet village location allowed us lots of rest and relaxation. Good outdoor space. There is limited room in the second bedroom, however our son slept really well. A dressing table in the main bedroom would have been a real bonus. The kitchen is compact but clean. Equipment that could be used in the microwave would have been good. Curling up in the evening with a good book in front of the open fire was perfect. We would definitely consider returning to May Cottage again. Thank you.
- Jo-anne, October 2021Ailsa “Cottage was great especially with a dog and Broadway is a lovely with plenty to do and a brilliant base for a Cotswold holiday.”
Lots of lovely dog walks up towards the tower.
- Ailsa, October 2021Paul “Great location close to centre of Broadway, road very quiet in the evening and overnight.”
Car parking in car park accross the road was handy - only a 1 minute walk away. We parked on double yellows outside property to unload and load luggage. The property was very clean and the downstairs layout was very good and spacious, lack of a downstairs toilet maybe an issue for some but this is clear in the listing. Back garden faces west so gets plenty of sun and not overlooked much. Bedrooms are a decent size, only criticism of the property upstairs would be a slight lack of storage. We were 2 adults and a 4 year old but I imagine 2 couples would struggle a bit. There was also no dressing table and mirror with a plug close by. Overall a very good cottage which with a few tweaks could be excellent.
- Paul, June 2021M “A lovely cottage.”
Stayed here many times now but unfortunately due to them not excepting dogs anymore, it will be our last time.
- M, October 2020Sandra “May Cottage is very large inside, with plenty of room to spread out.”
I loved the decor downstairs, and the open fire in the front room was a real treat - perfect for cosy evenings in. Would definitely come back!
- Sandra, October 2020B “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely little comfy cottage.”
The weekend we arrived the weather was very wet. The cottage host left us an umbrella which we thought was very thoughtful. The beds are very comfy. The kitchen is well equipped and well laid out. Our only negative about the cottage is the stairs. We had my elderly parents with us (in their 80s) and they found the stairs a bit narrow so had to use them with extreme care. However, this didn’t stop us from having a lovely time. Location is excellent for Broadway high street.
- B, October 2020Barbara “Everything was as described, the cottage is in a great location in Broadway.”
It would have been nice to have some reclining garden chairs or sun beds, which would have made sitting in the garden more comfortable for longer .
- Barbara, September 2020Catherine “This was our postponed Easter holiday but it was reassuring to be able to rebook on the website very easily and no further problems.”
The cottage is well situated in the town and double glazed so quite quiet. Convenient for many Cotswold attractions Snowshill and Hidcote Manor gardens and lots of walking from the door or nearby. Good to have parking as the town gets quite busy although the garage door is quite difficult to open. Cottage beautifully clean and very warm and well equipped. Good to have a dishwasher and freezer a bonus as the only supermarket in Broadway is a bit limited. Only niggle was the shower In the main bedroom was difficult to adjust and the bath could do with a grab rail as the shower is over the bath which is rather high. All in all a lovely much needed holiday with great weather.
- Catherine, September 2020Dave “Great service.”
Cottage ideal made for a lovely weekend break. Dog friendly, good walks great base for Cotswolds.
- Dave, February 2020Paul “The temperature control on the shower in the bathroom off the front bedroom does ...”
The temperature control on the shower in the bathroom off the front bedroom does not work, it is extremely hot and would not adjust and was consequently unusable
- Paul, February 2020Carol “Lovely cottage in an excellent position.”
You can walk down the street, no car required . Broadway is an excellent spot whereby you can get to other places very easily. We loved it.
- Carol, January 2020Christopher “Only problem radiator not working in front bedroom”
- Christopher, December 2019Sally “We really loved the cottage and the excellent location.”
We also enjoyed the garden very much. Unable to control hot water in the showers. It was so hot we couldn't under the shower. Would have preferred to drink out of mugs but unfortunately the only crockery was 4 small cups and 1 mug.
- Sally, August 2019Thank you for your comments. We are sorry you experienced issues with the water temperature. We have tested this since your visit and we have not found any problems. We always try to keep the cottage well-equipped and were not aware that the mugs had been removed. We would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention and have now replaced the missing items. Kind Regards, The Property Owner Property Owner
Christine “No downstairs toilet and sharp stairs being a cottage so may be more difficult for anyone with ambulatory problem.”
Cottage very near the high street.
- Christine, July 2019Linda “Lovely cottage again, Lovely bed's and nice and clean but needs cleaning ...”
Lovely cottage again, Lovely bed's and nice and clean but needs cleaning behind furniture, and windows cleaning not a very good wellcome pack and No doggy wellcome But would book again tho Love the Broadway one of the best places So a hour away for us
- Linda, June 2019Marilyn “A very charming cottage with spacious living area.”
Clean with all the necessary facilities. Very near the centre of Broadway. We would definitely return and recommend to friends.
- Marilyn, May 2019M “We love Mays Cottage.”
.. It’s charming, clean, got everything one needs and it feels like home. We’ll be back.
- M, March 2019Ruth “THe perfect cottage in the perfect location.”
A brilliant Friday to Monday break!
- Ruth, November 2018Julie “On arrival the cottage had not been cleaned and after several voicemails the owner contacted us later that night and arranged for us to stay at The Lygon Arms Hotel at his expense for 2 rooms as there were 4 of us.”
We were very grateful as it was 11.00pm by the time it was all sorted and hadn’t eaten and were very stressed as we didn’t know what we were going to do. The following lunchtime we returned to May Cottage and it was immaculate and everything we had hoped for. It was my birthday weekend and unfortunately I lost a night out as it took several hours to sort but I am looking forward to returning next year. The fireplaces were lovely and cosy, and it is a very comfortable cottage within walking distance to the village. My only note would be to add some mirrors in the bedrooms and a bread knife in the kitchen.
- Julie, November 2018M “Perfect little cottage.”
Very comfortable and everything you need. We didn’t think the photos did it justice. Very comfy beds. Great location. Owner even paid for ‘now’ subscription on tv as we had a rainy day, we are very appreciative of that. Great garden for the dogs! The cottage was very clean and spacious. Lots of light sunny rooms. Will definitely be back!!
- M, October 2018Peter “This was are first visit to the Cotswolds May cottage at Broadway was the perfect place for roaming around all the local villages ,on arrival delighted to see the very high standard of cleanliness, it rely felt like every thing was brand new and we where the first to stay in the cottage well done housekeeper , also loved the touch of the welcome gifts ,we loved the thorntons , fresh flowers and betty our lab loved her treats !”
,all in all so sorry to leave after only a week [we checked sykes web site to see if we could stay another week , sadly booked up] BUT NOT SURPRISED We also loved the restaurants only a very short walk away and dined out every night , must say without exception all the staff in every shop or eatery in the village so pleasant and friendly a big thank you all.
- Peter, September 2018Hla “Positives: Great location.”
Just a few minutes walk to the village centre. Very quiet and peaceful although on a main road. Not overlooked by anyone from the back. Kitchen well equipped, including a compact dishwasher. Nicely decorated throughout. Car parking space and a secure single garage available across the road in the long stay car park. Negatives: The smaller bedroom is quite tight for space. The bigger bedroom gets direct sunlight in the mornings. The curtains are not lined with blackout material so we got woken up very early every morning with the light. The duvets and woollen blankets were quite warm for the weather conditions. Cotton blankets would have been great. The main spoiler for us was the strong wet dog odour downstairs in the two living rooms as well as the bottom of the stairs. A wet dog has most obviously been on the sofas in the main living room, leaving the awful odour on even the cushions. We found the voile curtain in the kitchen had been ripped very badly on one side, the other bears dog bite marks. We had to report these issues to the owner. I had to buy a can of Fabreeze to try and get rid of the awful odour. Even with 2 liberal applications, the unpleasant odour still lingered on. We had not realised this was a pet friendly cottage when we booked. We will avoid booking a pet friendly property in the future for sure.
- Hla, September 2018Thank you very much for your feedback. I am sad to hear your stay did not meet expectations. I aim to provide the highest possible standards at my property and have taken your feedback on-board. I have spoken my cleaner and it has been resolved. In addition, curtains have been replaced. The pictures and property description on the website are mirror of my property. I always provide my contact detail to my guests advising to contact me if they have any issues so that it can be rectified straightaway so that they can enjoy their stay. Property Owner
David “Great cottage with eveything you would need for a relaxing week.”
Recently renovated with very nice decor. Great kitchen with all mod cons including dishwasher and excellent washing machine. Iron and ironing board and vacuum cleaner provided, also tablets for washing machine which is a nice touch. Only issue I would bring up is had to work out central heating for ourselves. There should be instructions on settings and controls so central heating can be operated easily as it did get cold in the mornings and evenings. Overall a fantastic cottage and an easy 2 minute walk into town, and also to the Cotswold way for other nice walks especially to the Broadway Tower. We would definitely stay here again.
- David, August 2018Marie “The Cottage was exceptionally clean, it was well equipped.”
We didn't encounter any problems. A very small quibble, a pair of oven gloves rather than one glove would have been useful .The towels , whilst very clean were a little worn. But we will definitely stay there again. The location is excellent, walking distance to the shops, easy parking. The garden has seating to eat outside. Very good washing machine. It was a lovely holiday let.
- Marie, August 2018Lynda “This is a beautiful property in an ideal location.”
