“The cottage was in need of a refurbish.”

The bed and the sofa were very comfortable. The stairs were VERY steep and would cause a problem for the elderly or infirm. The maintenance of the cottage requires improving, i.e. drawers not closing properly, handle fallen off drawer, extractor fan not working, doors sticking.

“We have stayed here before and it is a super cottage.”

The stairs are steep, as described, and the whole cottage is quirky, but comfortable and clean and very centrally placed. Our only problem has been the TVs. We really could do with idiot proof instructions for them - they are very up to date compared to ours at home. We did manage to get some freesat channels on the TV in the lounge but with no Netfix accounts or similar generally they were beyond us. However, we did not worry too much about the lack of TV!!

I contacted the owner directly With some suggestions to improve this. There was a slight issue with the shower, but the owner was straight on it and had an engineer out the same day excellent service

Cottage very clean and well maintained. Good base for exploring the cotswolds. Neighbour very friendly and helpful. Stairs could be a little challenging for older people. Rope handrail fixing becoming loose and needs attention.

“The property was just as advertised.”

We felt privileged to have stayed in such an old and lovely quirky home. Yes there is some noise from the road at the back but it was soon forgotten whilst sitting on decking surrounded by vines. Great for our dog.

“Combe cottage is a delightful property in a convenient situation for exploring the countryside in the area.”

There is a bus stop close by covering several useful bus routes. The nearby pub provides good food at weekends. There is a useful local store nearby too. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking equipment and crockery and the heating was efficient. We bought kindling and fuel from the local store and treated ourselves to a real fire on several evenings too.

“Very nice cottage, comfortable and quirky.”

We were warned about uneven floors and steep stairs beforehand and being in our 60s and 70s we took care and had no problems. Excellent position, close to all the places we wanted to visit and revisit. We managed to figure out the posh TV in the lounge but could have done with instructions for the other TVs. However, being tired after a busy day, it did not matter! We were able to eat outside in the garden a couple of evenings, lovely spot and lovely garden. We were very impressed to see lots of grapes coming on the vines as we watched the sun set over the valley.

“The cottage literature folder needs to be updated.”

There are 2 showers within the cubicle. One electric and the other a mixer valve shower. As the electric shower was not working, we attempted to use the mixer valve shower. The water was almost scolding. On contacting the owner, we were instructed to use the electric shower (which wasn't working). We established that this had tripped out at the contact breaker in the electrical cupboard, which we then rectified. However, the shower circuit breaker tripped out several times if there were any other electrical items in use at the same time.

Many thanks for your feedback. We have checked the showers and found them both in working order. The shower is on its own circuit breaker and tripped during your stay. We provide instructions of how to use the shower that are shown in the information binder. The power shower is set at an ambient temperature of 33C. Property Owner

“Combe Cottage is clean, well equipped and comfortably furnished.”

The garden provides an ideal spot to relax on warm evenings and there is off street parking. Sloping floors and the internal stair, which is said to be very steep, as well as external steps to the front of the property may present difficulties for those with any kind of mobility problems or young children.

“We had a lovely time at Combe Cottage.”

It is full of character, warm and cosy. Just to deal quickly with one (rather silly IMO) criticism that some others have made - It is true that the stairs are very steep, and some floors a little bit uneven, but this is an ancient Cotswold stone cottage and that is all part of the charm for me. It isn't one of those houses which has been rendered characterless. Immaculately clean and a lovely modern bathroom and kitchen. The wifi worked really well and the smart TV has netflix etc. The heating was great as was the little solid fuel stove - both important as we visited in November. Very quiet inside the cottage. The cottage is raised up behind the London Road (not right on the road) which leads into Stroud in one direction and Cirencester in the other, so there is some road noise from the garden, but you cannot hear that at all inside and it makes getting to everywhere you want to go to very easy. And in the evenings and at weekends there isn't much at all anyway. Getting in and out of a property easily is not always a given round here where you can be in really narrow little roads and find your car blocked in when you try to leave - I know this as I'm from the area. Having the parking space outside the cottage and the easy access to the London road was actually a plus. Walk up behind the house straight into the lovely villages of Thrupp and Chalford. There is a shop just round the corner. Supermarkets nearby - a five minute drive. Walk down the hill to walk along the canal which is a great walk in either direction and a five minute drive in pretty much any direction takes you to all the beautiful places around Stroud where you can walk for miles and enjoy the amazing views. Stroud is a lively town, full of great coffee shops and interesting independent shops. Cirencester is lovely. I cannot enumerate all the lovely villages and great country pubs serving good food, but they are all around Stroud. The valleys and hills of Stroud are some of the loveliest in the country. The cottage was so easy to live in, Andy the owner responded immediately to any queries, was really kind and flexible - and let us bring our dogs who also loved it. We will definitely visit again.

“Really lovely quaint cottage.”

There were only three of us so even though it is small, it was big enough. The walks in the areas are lovely and we found numerous pubs and cafe's which were very good and not far from the cottage (I would recommend the Ram in Bussage)
