“The fact that a toilet and a wash hand basin was classed as a bathroom was totally misleading but I'm happy to see that this has now been rectified on the website.”

The mattress in the fourth single walk through bedroom was totally unsuitable for an adult to sleep on and we had to use one of the mattresses from one of the double rooms. Though the kitchen was adequently supplied it could do with a few more basics ie milk and water jugs and a set of water glasses for the table rather than plastic ones. If these small points were addressed the cottage would be outstanding.

“A few comments: Garden needs a bit of tlc and fences front and back need replacing or mending.”

Photo on advert for Well Cottage is not truly representative of the actual condition. Patio needs cleaning Problem with shower in front bedroom and shower over the bath was disappointing and note many comments in guest book about this problem. May by the side door brought more dirt in - needs replacing. Small bedroom not good with no natural light and did not work for our party. Vacuum was broken and difficult to use It’s a beautiful house in great location but it just needs a bit of tlc

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you did not find Well Cottage up to our usual high standards. The showers have been rectified, with new cartridges installed. The garden does suffer at this time of year with lots of fallen leaves and apples. The gardener attends once a fortnight, the patio area is also cleaned on a regular base.We are replacing the vacuum cleaner. The mat at the side door has also been replaced. “We loved our stay here.”

The house is lovely and was spotless. It was one of our first holidays with our toddler and having a big, safe garden for her to run around in and being so close to the village (and the ducks) made our stay brilliant. We had plenty of space/bathrooms in the house for a family holiday. I can't recommend this property enough - if you're looking at it book it!!

“We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely cottage, great location.”

There was however a couple of problems, front bedroom on suite shower can be very hot almost scalding, I suggest you do not adjust it, after getting temperature right it was fine. End of the garden needs more security for our four legged friends, my schnauzer managed to get out twice. Love the Cotswolds

“Our second visit to the cottage, such a lovely high quality property.”

The garden was fantastic for our children as was the games which were left and the Xbox, a real family friendly property. Being so close to the centre of Bourton was brilliant, a short stroll down the road and you are there. The kitchen is well stocked and the welcome hamper a lovely touch. Would really recommend this property.

“I 78 yrs old and not as mobile as I was, when I entered the property and saw the stairs I nearly left.”

Why was there no photo of the stairs or a warning in the listing - not good for oldies and youngsters. My second issue is the type of chair at the dining table and around the house such as bedroom - cheap, nasty and so uncomfortable. For me these two issues ruined my stay at a fantastic house and garden. Please some more photographs and more information about the property in the listings

“We had a wonderful time staying at Well Cottage.”

Its just a 5 minute walk into the village with all its amenities and attractions and only 2 minutes walk to the supermarket. The cottage itself is very spacious and well equipped. There is a single bedroom which you walk through to get to one of the double rooms, with an ensuite, which proved ideal for our baby with parents next door. Then there are 2 further double rooms, one with a lovely ensuite the other with use of a separate bathroom. All the double rooms were set up with super king size beds ( I.e. none as a twin as in the photos) this suited us fine but I think you'd need to make it clear if you needed twin rooms. The beds were comfy and the showers and baths powerful. With 2 lounges it meant the generations could do their own thing. The garden is large and fully enclosed, our dog loved playing catch before heading out on a walk. Also included in the cottage were thoughtful touches. A selection of goodies in the fridge, plus tea and coffee. Hand towels in all the bathrooms and tea towels. There's a tap and short hose pipe outside for washing the dog and muddy boots. Would highly recommend. Probably the best holiday cottage we've ever stayed in!

“Absolutely fabulous cottage to book.”

Everything you need for a good holiday, a real home from home. Walking distance from the village which has a good Indian and Fish and Chip restaurant if you don't fancy cooking. A huge garden for our dog but also great for children if you took them. Also friendly neighbours who we met one morning. Six of us plus a well behaved beagle stayed for a week and it was great. A good location to see all of the Cotswold - close to Glouscester to visit the Cathedral. Fabulous shopping in Cirencester - lots of little boutique shops if you like a bit of shopping. I would highly recommend.

“We loved this house.”

“Wonderful cottage and this was our second visit.”

I was so impressed that you had added long mirrors in each bedroom after my comment last year. A couple more dishwasher tablets and some washing powder would have been very helpful. Wonderfully comfortable beds. Very sad to see the huge rise in price for next November - I was about to re-book until I saw the increase.

Yes the long mirrors are a great addition, many thanks for the suggestion. Manor cottages have said ‘With regards to the dishwasher tablets, this should have been provided in the welcome pack, but we don't currently provide washing powder, due some guests having sensitive skin.’ In terms of price rise the prices have gone up for next year but this was an amount stated by all as reasonable and in line with general increases for holiday lets. Unfortunately like everything the costs of operating the cottage have gone up. However really pleased to see that you have now decided to rebook for next year and you will very, very welcome at the cottage again. We hope you and your family have many more happy holidays. Good parking for 3 cars, great location close to town. Spotlessly clean and well equipped, although I had requested twin beds and even phoned sykes 3 days before to check, the beds were made up as doubles, lovely lady came to sort out.

“We absolutely loved the accommodation, it was perfect for us all.”

Really lovely back garden with storage for our bikes which we used a lot whilst there. We had the bathroom with the roll top bath and having not had a bath for several years due to removing and installing a shower it was a lovely end to busy days running, cycling and walking. Perfect location to get everywhere we wanted to including Clarksons Farm - a 26 mile cycle ride with a pint of Hawkstones cider at the farm. Would highly recommend the cottage and the beautiful area. Great to hear you enjoyed the roll top bath, having two baths across the three bathrooms is real plus for the cottage and yes hopefully helps people after a day of exertion. Making the bike ride to Diddly Squat is a great achievement. Clarkson certainly generates a ‘marmite’ reaction in people but he has now bought the Hawkstone brewery which is about a 10 min walk from the cottage. They have now put in a bar and started doing live music and other events. The larger (and cider) brewed there is certainly a very good drink and available in many of the local pubs as well as the brewery. Thank you so much for the recommendation. “Lovely House nice and spacious loved the decor top notch very comfortable stay the garden was beautiful ideal for our little dog to run around safely.”

The only thing we would of liked more wardrobe space for sure there was not enough hangers in the rooms (hence went and got our own) we thought there was enough space for a small wardrobe in all the rooms to be fair.....liked your idea of hanging stuff on the rustic black pipe look but would say a wardrobe would benefit more..... perfect location for our stay. The property was very clean on arrival....but when we left and did our clean we could see that the single chair in the lounge had not been pulled out possibly by last people or not been hoovered behind was quite dusty maybe your cleaners should pull the furniture out when they go in on a change over day??? The large lounge curtains in back was coming unclipped so a couple of times I did re-up them back quite fidely to do the one on end of curtain seemed like it was broken clip wise was hanging down when we arrived but didn't look very nice....maybe an upgrade curtain wise to match smaller lounge and curtain pole would benefit this room now.....these are our personal feedback the house is absolutely lovely just a couple of minor things let it down. But would definitely stay again every thing was to our taste. The weather was fine on arrival but gradually got worse rain wise.... typical but we still enjoyed our stay we thought the house was lovely and up there with top marks on other properties we have stayed in for sure ....

The curtains is great feedback, sometimes you just don’t spot these things, new poles and curtains are on the way and will be fitted soon. The rustic pipes for hanging clothes seemed to work well but a few people have mentioned wardrobes so measurements have been taken and again will be on the way. Manor cottages (who mange everything on the property including cleaning, changeovers etc) have picked up on the feedback of the chair, feedback has been good on the housekeeping so sure they will sort. Sorry the weather got worse, not so much can do on that one afraid! “While on holiday in Bourton-on-the-Water last year, we walked past Well Cottage and decided it would be ideal for us to stay in this year.”

We were not disappointed! It is a spacious, beautifully-furnished, and well-equipped property with a fabulous garden (which our pooch loved). The icing on the cake is its perfect location, just two or three minutes walk to the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water. When returning from holiday, we are usually able to think of several ways in which the property we stayed in could be improved, but Well Cottage surpassed our expectations and was absolutely perfect. In fact, we are just about to book again for next year - don't want to miss out!

“The water in all the showers really was dodgy.”

I know you’ve put signs round the house to warn of the hot temps but it really didn’t make for comfortable washing all week (showers were either cold or boiling) and with a 5 year old child, was quite dangerous, we had to be very careful. Other than that it was a very lovely property, very clean, comfortable and well appointed, we had a wonderful week. One other thing to note was could do with quite a few more hangers for clothes, ended up with most things living in the suitcases as not any wardrobes and very few hangers on the rails provided

“This house is amazing and so convenient to the centre of the village.”

The bed was really comfortable. Of street parking is a bonus. We didn’t use our car while we were there. However, as previously mentioned we had problems with the hot water. The shower temperature couldn’t be easily controlled as it was either freezing cold or boiling hot. We didn’t use the oven as it was dirty. the lounge to the rear smelt doggy and there were dog hairs on the floor. This is a housekeeping issue and not a reflection of the owners who have provided a lovely home from home.

Now that you have commented we have commissioned black out blinds throughout the bedrooms. The beds were purchased from a company that provide beds to high end hotels, it is difficult to get beds to suit everyone but we will take a look. “The property is absolutely lovely, just as it was last year, the garden is beautiful and the welcome pack was above the norm with milk, cheese, butter, eggs & orange juice plus biscuits and lots of coffee pods for the machine.”

just a very minor point, I’m guessing the toilets are set to use less water but very often they require two flushes and that actually uses more water. Very clean and tidy on arrival with everything catered for, it really is home from home, A hot tub would be the icing on the cake but I fully understand that they are expensive to run and maintain. I’m sure we will return again as it is such a flexible welcoming property well positioned in such a beautiful Cotswold village. Please give our thanks and regards to the owners.

The extras in the pack were to say thanks for coming back again, it really does mean a lot. Great to hear that it was very clean and tidy on arrival, its fully managed via syyes/manor cottages through from booking, readiness and maintenance so great to hear they are doing well. Toilets have had an adjustment to balance the water conserver and ease of use. When developing the house a hot tub was advised as a no by varying holiday rental firms, someone trying to spoil the fun! Thanks for the ‘thanks’ but equally we are so glad you had a great stay and enjoy the house so much. We very much hope you return again and once again enjoy the amazing Bourton on the Water. “We had a fantastic stay at Well Cottage.”

The house was very well situated and spacious yet homely. It was very clean and it was a lovely surprise to receive a hamper of cheese/milk/fudge etc on arrival. Small touches were great such as providing rubber ducks for the bath in the kid's bathroom - a hit with the children! When communicating with the team from Sykes before our visit everyone we spoke to was incredibly helpful. We would highly recommend Sykes and Well Cottage.

“Property was nigh on perfect but with a few tweaks it could be even better.”

Would have liked a butter dish, a lemon squeezer and some containers for leftovers. More importantly a black out blind in the master bedroom would have been welcome. That room faces the street and the street lamps stay on all night. I had to rig up my own black out blind but it was not ideal. More mugs too please. We had to keep putting on the dishwasher just for the mugs which was not ideal. More bowls too please. All in all though a fabulous week with ages ranging from 1 - 93. Great to have a bathroom each and the downstairs layout worked well with rooms being able to be shut off to prevent toddler escape. An easy walk in the village so location is great.

Bowls and mugs sound like they occasionally take a tumble and will be restocked as well. On the front bedroom it’s the first time have had that feedback but of course we will look to resolve, will see what type of blind can fit into the window, they are the old stone frames but we will work something out. Much appreciated to you for highlighting. Amazing to hear of the 1-93 age range, sounds like multiple generations having a lot of fun. Glad you liked the layout, the aim was to have two separate living rooms where if necessary could split up a little and relax with different TV, chat, games. Xbox etc, with the larger living room also being big enough for everyone to be together. Then the separate dinning area where can all come together for meals, games etc. as well as the seating in the kitchen for ad-hoc breakfasts. Glad that also transferred into creating a good space for the little one. Glad you found the walk easy and hope you enjoyed all that Bourton on the water has to offer, it also does seem to cater through the generations from lots for children to do, good pubs and restaurants, adventures, beautiful walks and some great places for taking in the world with tea and cake. “Property was well kitted out with every amenity.”

Beds were super comfortable and the house was very warm. Added extra's like handwash in the bathrooms, real Christmas Tree, plenty of cleaning products were a great asset. We were a little confused about the household rubbish as the instructions inside the property didn't match up with the bin located in the back garden. All linens and towels were provided, an idea to add several coloured towels to the downstairs toilet, utility and kitchen could be an added bonus for when people are washing their hands and stand out from the white provided towels. In summary, this house was a little gem and my family and I thoroughly enjoyed some quality family time in a beautiful location. We would recommend this property and would visit again.

The multiple restaurants and pubs are great in Bourton with some of the established ones now being added to with the wellington now being open as well as the new bar behind the dial house. There is at least one more on the way with the building next to the motor museum being converted into a restaurant/pub. The new menu at the mousetrap is also great. The walk to the lower slaughter’s is a great stroll and the inn there is great. The bus is great and even allows dogs! A wonder round Stowe after an easy bus ride is a great day out. “We were very impressed on arrival of the cleanliness of the cottage.”

There were five of us and a toddler and a toddler. Plenty of space for us all . The goodies in the fridge on arrival were most welcome. We loved the garden plenty of space for the little one to play safely. So close to the centre of the village so the cars were not used much. We had the most special time and some special memories were made. On arrival the bin was missing but a phone call solved the mystery . The case of the missing bin. Thanks Well Cottage we will definitely return one day.

The garden is great, there are not to many houses in Bourton on the water with sizable gardens and its great to have the space and the gates etc for kids to play and run around, it’s what holidays are about. If the kids are happy normally it’s a happy holiday! To hear you made ‘special memories’ is really nice. Its easy to see holiday homes as focused on the rental charges but actually there is something really special about people having such a ‘special time’. As for the case of the missing bin then scenes from ‘Die Another Day’ where filmed in Bourton on the water so perhaps James Bond could have helped out. Or ‘Brum’ is in the motor museum in Bourton in the water and he liked a mystery to be solved. Sounds like manor cottages solved it though and they were not needed. “Super cottage which I have booked again for next year!”

Only niggles are - no full length mirrors and I don’t think we should have to be stripping our beds when we leave. Also, the 6pm arrival time is too late. All other holiday cottage companies have a 4pm check in. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Firstly, thank you for the 100/100, it means a lot to see such a score. Apologies on the hot water, after changing the boiler so there were no issues for the winter and being sure it was the new boiler causing the hot water it was actually the ‘motorised valve’ that needed replacement. You would need a plumber to tell us all what that is, but the result is the water is no longer as hot. Glad the Wi-Fi got sorted quickly, it has seemed reliable and is a high-speed connection. Decorated to a high standard, extremely comfortable, beautifully spacious rooms, well stocked with everything we needed for our stay, perfectly located in the village, and an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds. We were extremely impressed by the property - it was exactly as presented on the website. The flexibility with the bed configuration in each room was an inspired idea - even when both beds were together it made for a lovely, roomy sleep. The property was lovely and warm. The hot water was a bit too hot and took a bit of getting used to when running the tap and shower - you maybe want to get it checked out. The welcome goodies and milk was very kind. I reached out to the contact in advance of arriving, to confirm the bed configurations for each room, and received a prompt and welcoming response. Thank you for a wonderful stay! “We very much enjoyed our stay in this well appointed and tastefully decorated cottage with all the comforts of home and a very well equipped kitchen.”

It is very well located for easy access to all the attractions in Bourton on the Water and the surrounding Costswolds. There are, however, a couple of things we would like to point out which were not as described in the welcome pack. 1. There was no dustpan and brush or broom. 2. The wi fi code on the laminated signs is incorrect. The correct code can only be found on a small sticker in the front of the welcome pack. 3. Lastly and probably the most irritating and worrying thing we would like to draw attention to is the dog faeces found on the garden path, which we felt obliged to remove (photographic evidence of which can be provided). Whilst there is a reminder in the cottage for dog owners to be vigilant, we feel a thorough check of the garden should be made by cleaning staff after each let.

The points have been discussed with Manor cottages who fully manage the property and whole process. On the inventory there was previously a dustpan and brush and a broom so maybe they have been stored incorrectly on change over with other cleaning products or have been removed, its being checked and new ones will be on the way as needed. The wifi codes will be sorted, it has high speed internet and we think the code was changed but not updated everywhere. The garden has been discussed with the housekeepers from manor cottages and they offer their apologies, the garden is checked but obviously this was missed. “The house was fabulous!”

It looks just like the photos. The beds were comfy with plenty of pillows, white cotton sheets and duvet. The fans in the bedrooms were much appreciated as it was quite warm a couple of days during our visit. There was plenty of space and a nicely equipped kitchen. It was wonderful to be only a five minute walk to the center of Bourton-on-the-Water but not have to fight through the congestion of the town and being able to park in our own driveway. Having a Co-op around the corner was an added bonus. We cannot wait to go back!

“We couldn’t have asked for more on our recent stay at Well Cottage.”

On arrival we were impressed with the cleanliness, beautiful garden and comfort. The little welcome bits were a lovely surprise. We found the beds really comfortable, all rooms spacious and had everything we needed for 3 generations and a dog. The large co-op is so close which came in handy for last minute meal plans. The road was quiet and a nice stroll into the high street where we made the most of the ducks on the river, tea shops, motor museum, bird land and dragonfly maze. My children didn’t want to come home, we plan to visit Well cottage again in the near future.

“Well Cottage is beautifully appointed, the decor is very tasteful, a lovely warm, welcoming, comfortable property with a stunning garden and plenty of outside seating and space.”

The cottage has recently been completely upgraded, decorated and refurbished with everything you could possibly require, from a well equipped kitchen to the lovely spacious en-suite bathrooms and a family bathroom, all with luxurious fittings and underfloor heating. Well cottage is a lovely property with a supermarket a short walk away and the picturesque village of Bourton on the Water a five minute stroll down the gentle hill of Moore Road.

“As a family who like to cook and eat together there was only one casserole dish and no serving dishes which made things a little difficult.”

Everything else was wonderful, very comfortable and the furnishings were excellent. The help and service from Manor Cottages when we had a problem with the boiler was quick and efficient. Many a happy evening spent playing board games and cards around the large dining room table. We are aiming to return.

“The cottage is beautiful and so well located.”

We had a great stay and enjoyed trying the local restaurants, which were all great. We loved wandering around Bourton and spending time in the cottage as a family. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the cottage was disappointing when we arrived. Rubbish left by previous occupants was still visible on floors and under sofas (easily seen when walking into the room - we didn’t go looking for it!) The clean bedding was badly marked on one of the pillowcases and earphones were left by previous occupants by the bedside cabinet in one of the bedrooms - all of which should have been spotted when cleaning. We felt that the 6.00pm check in was very late, so would have expected that in the current climate a deep clean would have taken place, but this clearly wasn’t the case. Only two dishwasher tablets were left for a family of four on a five night stay! Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed our time at the cottage, which was very comfortable and plenty big enough for our family. However for the money we spent we would have expected a higher level of cleanliness.

“A lovely and well presented cottage situated in the heart of the village.”

Very convenient to walk around in Bourton-on-the-water, and just a few steps away from the coop. Really enjoyed sitting next to the wood burning stove with a glass of mulled wine after a days walk, felt so cosy and relaxing. Very comfy beds with down duvets, liked the heated bathroom floor, but do bring your own shampoo and shower gel as it’s not provided.

“The property was big enough for our party of six.”

Unfortunately there was not enough cutlery, and no teapot. The fridge was a nightmare as things kept dropping out when the door was open. This was the items put into the actual door compartment i.e. the milk cartons and juice cartons. Necessitating two massive clean ups plus having to pull out the fridge to mop up the spilt milk. The children’s rooms had cobwebs in the window. This all sound negative, but the property was in an ideal location the garden was fab and the barbecue was used by us even in the dark. The off road parking was also great.

Firstly thanks for the comments in relation to the location, its always nice to be able to walk to a range of shops, pubs and restaurants. The image of barbecuing in the dark is a great one and the brick built barbecue on the patio seems to be working well. The garden being the size it is seems to keep children entertained. Parking is pretty hard to come by so its nice to be able to park several cars and ideally leave them alone for a lot of the holiday and enjoy the walks. More cutlery is on the way as well as a teapot. The cobwebs have been flagged to housekeeping and the fridge will be looked at to see what can be done, apologies you had to clean up. “House itself was lovely, as was location.”

Couldn’t fault in most respects. However, despite requesting the third bedroom to be made up as super king instead of twin, as the listing advised that you could, and confirming again that this was what we wanted, we arrived to find twin beds. I’m not sure if this was a lack of communication from Sykes to the housekeeper, or the housekeeper ignoring it or being unable to do it for some reason, but either way, it spoilt the start of our holiday. I was a little disappointed by this, having paid £1700 for an out of school holiday break, and not getting what you asked for.

Stepping into the cottage, the entrance hallway provides a space for you to leave your coats and shoes before making your way into the sitting rooms.

Two sitting rooms are joined by a dining room, giving the cottage a lovely open feel, while allowing for some peaceful areas to be created when closed off.

Warm your toes in front of the woodburning stove in the sitting room, where you will also find a plush sofa and armchair to sink in and watch the TV on.

Located in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water dates back to Neolithic times with over 100 buildings being Grade II listed or higher. The picturesque high street nestles alongside the River Windrush over which several low stone bridges span, which is why Bourton-on-the-Water is known as the Venice in the Cotswolds.
