A Guide to the Best Pubs In and Around Blockley

The Great Western Arms

A great local with equally great atmosphere. This traditional village pub is a wonderful place to relax and everyone is always friendly. Walkers and cyclists can leave their cars in the car park if they phone ahead, and can even arrange for a meal to be ready and waiting after their ride or ramble.

The kitchen serves lunch, dinner and a selection of light bites throughout the week (with Steak Night every Thursday and their famous roast every Sunday). The signature dish to try though is cod fried in Hook Norton beer batter, from their brewery of choice.

Crown Hotel

The Crown Hotel is located on the High Street, on the doorstep of our beautifully presented ‘Knoll Cottage’, which has been stylishly refurbished recently.

Not only does it have a traditional pub with comfortable seating and a pool table, but the 18th Century inn also has a separate dining area. Guests are welcome to pop in for a pint post-ramble, or you can book a table at the Rafters Restaurant, where you’ll have classic British and international dishes to choose from.

Ebrington Arms

Excellent food and drink, with some of the best ales and tastiest fish and chips around! The Ebrington Arms is a local favourite, and it’s set in an unspoilt village with amazing views of the countryside.

Located just 10 minutes away from the village of Blockley, and as the starting point of the Foxcote circular walk, Ebrington is a great place to add to your Cotswold bucket list.

The pub itself is what we consider to be a real English pub, brewing its own smooth ales. And it was even voted as the ‘UK’s number 1 village pub’ in The Times, 2017.

The Churchill Arms

The Churchill Arms in Paxford is just over 5 minutes from the centre of Blockley, and it’s one of the best country pubs in the area. Set inside a 17th Century stone building, there’s a perfect mix of old world charm with contemporary touches.

Head Chef and Proprietor Nick Deverell-Smith offers modern dining in a traditional setting, and the heart of his menu is created using local suppliers for ingredients.

The bar itself oozes so much character, with flagstone floors and its inglenook fireplace. If you’re looking for elegant wines from around the world or beers from independent breweries, you’ve found the right place.
